Among the wizards of the acoustic fingerstyle movement is a man name Paolo Giordano - a guitarist of exceptional talents as player, composer, & instructor. His willingness to share his knowledge of arcane techniques is beyond cool; to fuse his talents with collaborations with other fabulous artists inspiring.

He has worked with bass legend Michael Manring, vocalist Pattie Cathcart (of Tuck & Patti fame), and others; performed at Muriel Anderson's "All Star Guitar Night" in 2001; received rave reviews for both his solo releases as well as all 4 of his other audio releases; shared the stage with such luminaries (and "Guitar Gods" interviewees) Preston Reed and Tommy Emmanuel; has appeared on the concert stage as well as television & radio; and much more.

Learn more about Paolo on his web-site, where you'll find audio, video, free lessons, schedule, and more!

I had a chance to speak to Paolo recently (whose English is not quite as good as his Italian, but much better than my Italian!) - check it out!

==========

1) What are your current projects?

I'M WORKING ON 2 CDS - ONE INSTRUMENTAL AND THE OTHER MORE VOCAL ORIENTED.

2) How do these differ from your past work?

THE USE OF NEW INSTRUMENTS (LIKE HARP GUITARS, LAP STEEL) AND NEW TECHNIQUE (BLENDIN TAPPING WITH BOTTLENECK).

3) Do you have one project that you are most proud of as a guitarist?

OF COURSE - MINE.

4) Can you give our readers a run-down of your basic gear (live and/or studio)?

LIVE I USE A LEXICON PCM 70 AS REVERB. ON GUITARS, I HAVE USUALLY DOUBLE PICK UP: PIEZO AND MIC.

5) Who would you cite as early influences, and who are you favorite new players?

MY EARLY INFLUENCE: JIMI HENDRIX, DUANE ALLMAN, WEST COAST (CSN&Y, JEFFERSON...) RY COODER, JORMA KAUKONEN, OLD BLUESMEN (SON HOUSE, BUKKA WHITE...). I LIKE BETWEEN ELECTRIC GUITARIST: STEVE MORSE, SOME STUFF OF GREG HOWE, SATRIANI. BETWEEN ACOUSTIC....THEY'ARE ALL FRIENDS: TUCK ANDRESS, ALEX DE GRASSI, ED GERHARD, TOMMY EMMANUEL, AND EVEN IF IT'S NOT A GUITAR PLAYER, MY GREAT GREAT FRIEND MICHAEL MANRING - MY PARTNER IN MANY TOUR. HE IS AN INCREDIBLE BASS PLAYER!

6) Can you give a few tips to aspiring players?

NO PAIN - NO GAIN. I'M JOKIN' .....BUT IT'S REALLY HARD TO GIVE TIPS IN FEW WORDS. IF WE TALK ABOUT MY WAY OF PLAYING, I CAN SAY TO VISIT MY SITE AND START PLAYING SOME EXERCISES ABOUT ACOUSTAPPIN. TALKING GENERALLY, THE STUDY IS IMPORTANT, BUT MUSIC IS TECHNIQUE, HEART, AND SOUL ...AND I WOULD SAY "..TO CURE THE BALANCE OF THESE 3". BESIDE THIS I WOULD ADD THAT MORE YOU KNOW (STYLES AND TECHNIQUES), MORE YOU CAN EXPRESS YOURSELF ...LIKE A DICTONARY ...MORE WORDS YOU KNOW, MORE YOU CAN TALK.

7) What are your future plans?

I TOOK A BREAK FOR MY DAUGHTER 'S BIRTH, SO I'VE BEEN OFF THE ROAD FOR 18 MONTHS. NOW I'M STARTIN TO WORK ON CONCERTS, TOURS (IN JULY WITH MANRING IN ITALY) AND FESTIVALS (USA, EUROPE, AND AUSTRALIA )

8) Thanx for talking to us, Paolo!

THANKS, DAVID!
